Intro- daylight- mid, afternoon-location school outside building
(We open with a shot of Jerry in his mathex uniform walking through the school. He Notices a large Mathex regional championships poster. He reads the poster and notices that there is a $400 transport and entry fees must be in by Monday.)
-Jerry-I’m the local mathex master, I have to be in that tournament! Hmmmm, $400 though. That only gives me this afternoon and the weekend to find the money.
(Jerry looks down to his pocket and reaches for his wallet. As he opens his wallet some money drops out. $15 and 70cents falls out.)
Scene 1- Daylight- afternoon- inside lounge at jerry’s place
(We then see Jerry back in his lounge. He is sitting on the floor with his childhood piggy bank. He is holding a hammer to its head.)
-Jerry- I’m sorry piggy but this has to be done. It’s for my own good.
(The piggy bank shatters and a small amount of coins and notes fly out. They add to $25.30. Jerry then heads off to sleep.)
-Jerry- Only twenty five dollars thirty. That mean I’ve only got $41 that won’t do at all. How on earth am I going to get three hundred and sixty dollars? I will just have to sleep on it.
(Jerry then walks off to bed)
Scene2- mid afternoon, jerry’s lounge
We then see jerry sitting at home playing poker on his laptop
-Jerry-Maybe if I get some mates together and play some real money poker, I could make profit but is a risk. I won’t make enough but it will be a start. It’s a risk but it’s a calculated and I believe I can win.
(He then sends out a txt seeing if anyone is keen to play a poker game at for some cash. He sits continuing to play online and then his phone goes. He gets a few mates replies that are keen for a game.)
That Night
(We see 5 guys around a table laughing with chips and cards. They play some poker and Jerry gradually builds a big stack of chips. The other gamblers gradually go broke and leave the room in the shot. Jerry plays until he is the last one sitting and collects the money from the game tin. He sits happily with all of his money in front of him. He now has $50.)
Scene 3- Daylight- early afternoon-location-Nicks house
(Jerry’s speech is slightly nerdy/smart so he has to sound as though he knows it all)
-Jerry-Ah man I really need that money, what am I going to do!
(Jerry becomes angry and depressed that he may not have the chance to be the ultimate mathex champion ever, so he comes up with this genius idea)
-Jerry- That’s it, I’m going to play poker
(Jerry decides that he really needs money for the mathex championship so the thought jumps into his head of poker when he sees a mysterious ace card lying on the floor. So jerry realises that he needs money fast and the only way to win enough to pay the fee is to cheat. Jerry then searches online and begins to learn the ways to master cheating in poker.)
-Jerry-.If I’m going to make this $350 I’m going to have to increase my odds. I’ll cheat. This could be my greatest idea yet!
(We now see jerry at his laptop, learning to cheat.)
-Jerry- Now, it’s time to master the way of cheating, to be the best of the best, to do what no other has done , I will become a legend!
-Jerry-Now let’s bring on the beats
(Music starts to play when he puts in headphones from IPod. He begins to constantly work his mind into remembering these different ways to cheat by practicing and practicing. He becomes so determined to cheat that he gets into workout clothes and a packet of cards, sweating it up trying out and remembering multiple strategies, playing his favourite song to keep up the pace. He practices fast finger movements and strengthens them so he can quickly draw out aces, and put together a royal flush in a split second.)
-Jerry- I’m ready, and now I must find a battle ground, well a place to earn quick cash.
(Now jerry decides to send out txts everywhere to find the best poker location in the Whangaparaoa region. He waits and waits, changing positions becoming inpatient, until finally the reply he was waiting so long for arrives in style.)
-Jerry- What?, who’s here?
(A dodgy looking car pulls up outside his house out pop two tough, rich and scary looking guys. Jerry becomes freaked out but knows it must mean something that two guys want to talk to him.)
-Oh no! , they must have found my pirated movies, got to hide my laptop
( He runs out to his computer and hides it because he thinks that they found out that he has downloaded illegal pirated movies which aren’t even at the movies yet.)
-Jerry- Let’s just hope it’s not bad, cause if they take my money, well say goodbye to mathex championships.
(The guys knock on the door, and jerry forces himself to open, freaking out that he’s going to get the bash. The door opens and the two guys stare straight at him, not talking. One of the guys reaches into his pocket.)
-Jerry- please not be a gun, I’m too young to die!
(Jerry daydreams and thinks it’s a gun which he pulls out and shoots him in the chest, (show this imagination that jerry experiences) but jerry’s imagination is far out there. The guy actually pulls out an envelope that says jerry; the two guys then leave without any expression as if they are robots. Jerry shuts the door, looking shocked and opens up the envelope with such surprise and intent because he has no idea what it could be.)
-Jerry- Now if I’m not in trouble what could this?
(He opens slowing with his hands shaking. He pulls out the note and it says you are invited to an underground poker tournament. Jerry then realises what he must do.)
-Jerry-I’m in
(Jerry then drops the invitation and quickly shuts the door; he waits for them to leave and opens the door to grab the envelope then goes out of shot to change.)
Scene -4- Late afternoon/ night-time, around manly
(We see Jerry walk out of the house and jogs down the drive way and up the road. Then running around the corner into the park, runs through the park, to the address on the invitation. He opens the gate and walks through the door. He then walks down the stairs and around the corner to where the bouncer for the club is standing.)
-Bouncer-Got stacks?
-Jerry- Is 50 enough?
-Bouncer- that’ll have to do, got an invite punk?
-Jerry- Right here
(Jerry hands him the invitation, and the bouncer opens the door into the poker room.)
Scene-5- night time, in the poker room (nicks garage)
(Jerry walks in to see a table with cards cash and chips. He slides on his sunglasses and buttons his jacket tighter. The gang members are standing around there boss. He walks to the table and takes a seat.)
-Jerry- ready to rumble?
(The two gang members take their seats and pistachio turns around and takes the seat between them. He reaches for his bowl of pistachio nuts and fills his mouth.)
-Pistachio- You can call me pistachio, I will be the one taking all your money today, By my sides are my wingmen , their names are not important.
-Bouncer- Shall we begin then boss?
-Pistachio- Split the chips
(The bouncer pulls out the chip case and hands the stacks of chips out, he places an unopened deck on the table.)
-Bouncer- 2 hundred for you boss, 100 for you
-Wingman1- yea boy!, thanks boss!
-Pistachio- looks after it!
-Bouncer-and 100 for you, and only 50 for you kid.
(Everyone has their chips and they pull their seats up getting ready to play, the bouncer moves back towards the wall into the shadows and jerry reaches for the deck of cards.)
-Jerry- shall I start the dealing?
- Pistachio- go ahead but there’s no rush, why you so hasty boy
-Jerry- just excited I suppose
(Jerry shuffles the cards and deals the first hand. They play poker for a while. We see clips of pistachio eating his nuts, Wingman 1 losing money, Wingman 2 winning some hands and constantly steering down jerry we also see Jerry looking nervous when he cheats and wins hands. We hear Jerry’s thoughts at points during these clips.)
Lines of jerry’s thoughts:
-Jerry- Why does he always steer at me? Stop yourself from getting scared Jerry you’re a champion.
-Jerry- Wow I pulled that off. These guys might actually be as dumb as they look.
(After plenty of hands and Jerry making a small amount of money he thinks to himself)
-Jerry- I’ve played along long enough it’s time to make the real money.
(Jerry picks up the cards to shuffle for his secret and special move. He stacks the cards so that the boss and two wingmen all get good cards. He also has a good hand. A bidding war begins and lots of chips are on the table. No one folds and more and more money goes in until everyone has all of their money in play. On the river the last card is dealt and they show their hands. Wingman1 shows his hand very excitedly. The boss then shows his hand. It beats his wingmen. The next wingman puts his cards face down because he thinks the boss has won. Jerry stands up and slams his cards on the table. He has pulled it off and won all the money. He sits back down smiling. Pistachio jumps out of his seat followed by his two wingmen.)
-Pistachio- What just happened? I am furious! I can expect you to beat this man.
(Pistachio puts his hand on wingman1 ones shoulder. Wingman1 dips his head in sadness.)
-Pistachio- You possibly could be as good as me but no one is as good as Kenny!, He is the reigning mob champion.
(Pistachio points to wingman2 and reveals his name.)
-Pistachio- I think you were up to something!
(Bouncer walks over and grabs Jerry by his back. He pulls 3 aces out of his sleeve. )
-Bouncer- This is what we call Busted
(Jerry grabs the cash and runs out the door.)
Scene 6- early morning (actually late afternoon) outside gang headquarters
(Jerry runs towards the gate. The bouncer catches up and tackles him to the ground. The bouncer holds him there till pistachio and the two wingmen arrive. Pistachio says his one line and Jerry cries out pleas.)
-Jerry- No I’m sorry please don’t....
-Pistachio- Your steal from me and you’ll find out why they call me pistachio, it’s because I’m nuts!
(We see a fist fly at jerry. He is knocked out. The screen goes black and we hear the gang laughing.)
(Jerry wakes up on his own front lawn. He has a black eye and no money at all. He realises it is Monday and he has school. He goes inside to get his school stuff and clean up. His mother is standing in the kitchen. She says)
-Mum- Jerry where have you been and what on earth happened to your face?
-Jerry- I’ve been trying to get money for the mathex nationals today is the due date for fees. I got beaten up by some guys who I tried to work out of their money.
-Mum- Jerry you fool. I can’t believe you cheated I thought you were smarter than that, especially seen as how I paid for the mathex competition months ago!
(Jerry faints and falls over in shock, and jerry’s mum shrugs)
